IRCC Explains Requirements For International Citizens Coming to Canada as Digital Nomads

In a policy declaration publicized on 30th January, Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has explained specific information of interest to international citizens seeking employment in Canada as digital nomads. Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada declares that international citizens may formerly relocate to Canada to get employed remotely as a digital nomads with a visitor visa. Still, they can look for a work permit if they discover a Canadian employer after access to the nation.

Also, IRCC informed that if a digital nomad states their plans to discover an employer in Canada, they must be counseled that a work permit will be required before beginning work for the employer from Canada. Lastly, as shown by the policy declaration, if the digital nomad discovers an employer in Canada who is ready to employ them, they would be required to make an application for a work permit.

Requirement of Support Documentation to Move to Canada as a Digital Nomad

Tech Talent Strategy in Canada

On 27th June 2023, IRCC declared a tech talent strategy planned to support and entice global tech talent to Canada. This is because attracting this talent to Canada is essential, providing significance to Canada’s tech sector and economy.

Furthermore, to position Canada as an enticing destination for digital nomads, the strategy has to do with many standards, including a new invention stream under the International Mobility Program. This stream was expected at the end of 2023 but has yet to be declared.

IRCC stated that the invention stream will be excluded from the Labor Market Impact Assessment procedures. This strives to support employers and employees to assist Canada’s priorities for the tech industry.

Again, Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada launched a facilitated work permit for H1-B specialty occupation visa holders. The limit is 10,000 permits for the year, obtained on 16th July 2023. The department also stated that it would progress to existing tech courses, including Global Skills Strategy. Using the Global Skills Strategy, employers in Canada who employ international workers in particular information technology positions are qualified for expedited Labor Market Impact Assessment processing.
